  CLOGGING with Barbary Coast Cloggers
Instructors: Ian Enriquez
Timing: Sundays, March 21 - June 6, 3:30-5:30pm
Clogging is America 's first folk dance and came together when immigrants from different cultures shared their music and dance with each other.  The results were bluegrass and clogging.  The first half of the class will focus on beginning clogging steps mixed in traditional square formations set to bluegrass music. The second half of the class will focus on the evolution of clogging.  Over time, steps continued to evolve and incorporate more intricate movement.  Set to contemporary dance hits, the class will get a little more down and dirty as we learn clogging that embodies more of a hip hop vibe.   The Barbary Coast Cloggers (www.barbarycoast.org) are a non-profit organization founded in 1981 and have performed all across North America at world fairs, national clogging events, the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, including performances with Nancy Sinatra and right before bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs! Ian Enriquez has been performing with the company since 2004 after completing his studies in dance, with a focus on the influence of African dance. Prior to joining the group, he performed with dance ensembles in the Philippines, England, and Oberlin, Ohio.   $156 (Pre-Reg); $174 (Late Reg); $16 (Drop In)

Timing: Sundays, March 21-June 6, 5:30-7:00pm
These twelve-week-long workshops are geared to fine-tune your Salsa and Rueda dance skills for performance. During the workshop, students will apply and develop their knowledge of partnering technique, turn patterns, rhythm, and body-movement, taking their studio and social dancing skills to the performance level. In each choreography we combine classic Cuban salsa moves and original moves that we develop specifically for that piece. We are inspired by great Cuban music and are excited to share our enthusiasm with you. We truly choreograph to the music, using movement to fully express the intricate and multi-layered rhythms of each song. Some prerequisites apply for both levels. If you are unsure of your level, please contact the instructors at ryanandsidney@gmail.com.   Ryan Mead has nearly two decades of experience as a percussionist. Being both dancer and percussionist, Ryan is uniquely positioned to illuminate that most fundamental, yet seldom discussed, part of dance – its connection with the music.
